FAQ: How to locate downloaded vectorization files?

Most browsers save downloaded files automatically into your system’s default downloads folder. Below you will find detailed instructions for each operating system and explanations of known issues with SVG files on mobile devices.

Windows

On Windows, downloaded files are normally saved in the Downloads folder.

  • Open File Explorer.
  • Click on the Downloads folder in the left sidebar.

Why does my SVG appear as “HTML Web Page”?

This happens when Windows associates the .svg extension with Microsoft Edge or another browser. The file itself is correct, but Windows displays the wrong file type.

How to fix the file association

Re-associate .svg with a vector graphics editor:

  1. Open SettingsAppsDefault apps.
  2. Go to Choose default apps by file type.
  3. Find .svg and assign a proper application (Inkscape, Illustrator, etc.).

Alternative method

  1. Right-click any SVG file.
  2. Choose Open with → Choose another app.
  3. Select your vector-capable program.
  4. Enable Always use this app to open .svg files.

Still cannot find the file?

  • Search for *.svg in File Explorer.
  • Check browser downloads (Chrome/Edge/Firefox → Ctrl + J).

macOS

  • Open Finder.
  • Click the Downloads folder in the sidebar.

macOS generally handles SVG files reliably. They can be opened in Preview, Safari, or vector editors.

File not visible?

  • Search with Spotlight for *.svg or the filename.
  • Check Safari → Settings → General → File download location.

iOS / iPadOS

Some versions of iOS and iPadOS have limited or buggy support for SVG downloads. Known issues:

  • SVG files do not appear in the Files app.
  • SVG files cannot be attached in Mail.
  • SVG files are sometimes converted to PNG, losing vector quality.

Why this happens

Apple’s mobile platform does not fully support SVG handling across all versions and devices. Even if the file downloads correctly, the OS may hide it or modify it.

Workarounds

  • Use a Mac or Windows PC to download SVG files.
  • Try a third-party vector graphics app that supports SVG.
  • Transfer the file from another device via AirDrop if necessary.

Android

Support for SVG varies depending on device manufacturer and Android version.

Common issues:

  • SVG does not appear in the Downloads app.
  • Default gallery apps cannot preview SVG files.
  • Some apps automatically convert SVG to PNG.

Solutions

  • Use Chrome or Firefox for downloading SVGs.
  • Install an app with proper SVG support (vector editors or specialized viewers).
  • Transfer the file to a PC or Mac if the device cannot handle SVG reliably.

General Tips

Use your browser’s download history

  • Chrome / Edge: Ctrl + J
  • Firefox: Ctrl + J
  • Safari (macOS): ⌥⌘L

Search by extension

Try searching for:

  • *.svg

SVG is the recommended file format

SVG preserves full vector quality and is supported by all modern vector editors. For the best results, download and edit the SVG version of your converted file.
